Grameen Research
About Us:

Grameen Research, Inc. is a not-for-profit corporation with a mission to provide research, training and other support in the field of microfinance and other services for low income populations. Grameen Research, Inc.'s purpose is to engage in the business of supporting microlending and related services in the world as a means of assisting the world's low income populations to support themselves. In the areas of financial services, health care, and education a small amount of sustainable support can enable a large percentage of low income populations to lift themselves up to a better life for themselves and their children. They work very hard, and often a little of the right support at the right time will make a big difference in helping them to advance themselves and their families.

Projects We Support:

Grameen America - www.grameenamerica.org

Grameen America provides affordable micro-loans to financially empower low-income entrepreneurs.

Our vision is to help create a world free of poverty. We foresee a market where any individual with a dream can receive affordable financial products regardless of income, previous credit history, education, or business experience. We foresee a world where burgeoning entrepreneurs are empowered to lift themselves out of poverty through hard work and determination to forge better lives for their families and future generations.

Grameen Healthcare - www.grameenhealth.com

The mission of Grameen Healthcare (GH) is to establish sustainable best practices in a broad range of Healthcare services for a broad market including the poor. GH seeks to enable low income populations to be self sufficient in addressing their healthcare needs such that they can accept but not require outside assistance. Grameen Healthcare manages primary care clinics, eye hospitals modeled after the Aravind hospitals of India, and has started a college for nurses in Bangladesh. It has attracted partnerships from Pfizer, BASF, Johnson and Johnson, Emory University, McGill University and other leading international institutions.

To Catch A Dollar - www.tocatchadollar.com

A feature-length documentary by filmmaker Gayle Ferraro

What prevents poor people from getting ahead? Banks refuse to give credit without collateral. Where commercial banks see insolvency, Nobel Prize-winning economist Muhammad Yunus sees opportunity. His groundbreaking Grameen Bank was built on the radical notion that if you loan poor women money within the context of peer support, not only will they repay and sustain the bank, but they'll elevate their communities in the process. With millions of microloans to rural entrepreneurs in developing countries, Grameen is now audaciously importing its methods to the bastion of first-world capitalism: the U.S.A. First stop: Queens, New York. With an intimate camera capturing both buoyant and despairing moments, To Catch A Dollar chronicles the evolution of the tiny new branch. Will the solidarity principles of the Grameen groups of five borrowers in Bangladesh translate to a diverse group of inner-city women in New York City? As the banking industry contracts, will these bankers from Bangladesh succeed? One thing's clear: we need new business models and approaches to enable greater prosperity for all.
